He was made a cardinal a few years ago by Pope Francis, and he's thought to be continuing Pope Francis' kind of progressive push of the Catholic Church going forward. Jay, I know this is all fairly new news to you, but what is your first reaction to a Catholic Pope from Chicago?

You know, now I did see some good jokes online that he would be excommunicating people for putting ketchup on hot dogs, because apparently that's a that's a Chicago thing and that the body of Christ is now a deep dish pizza. I see this a lot within Catholic spaces is is there's this very big schism right now between what you kind of call cradle Catholics, which are people who were born into the religion and converts, adult converts specifically, because a lot of those adult converts are kind of coming from evangelicalism. Like they want that crazy. conservativism, but they think that the structure of Catholicism is more their way. But the people who are born and raised in the Catholic Church are kind of walking around going, why are you guys being so serious? Relax.

Um, but it is kind of cool when you start thinking about like, Oh, this, this has been either a like standing gear for thousands of years or be like, we're doing the same motions. So again, from my background, my father was raised Catholic.

People who are raised in the Catholic faith, again, they view their faith, I think, very differently. Right. Like, again, because they're kind of born into it, they don't take it as seriously. It's just kind of like one of those things where it's like, it's always there, you know. And so watching these arguments is really fascinating to me. Right. To see them be like, you know, and also the Catholic converts tend to be a lot more culturally conservative. right small c conservative than like people who are raised within the church which you would think it would be the opposite right like that people raised within the church would be more conservative when when really it's it's the converts who who become more socially conservative than the people who are raised within the confines of the catholic church it's very strange to me yeah um Is kind of Is weird. Yeah, I mean, I also saw some reaction like USA USA Like Again there is a lot of people who believe that this because of if you actually by the way

6:58 There was a bunch of people passing around the new Pope's Twitter feed Right because he was on Twitter Right his last few tweets were extremely critical of the Trump administration and Extremely critical of the American government and how they're treating immigrants and things like that so There is a belief that within the College of Card, obviously No one will ever know what was said by the College of Cardinals inside the conclave. It's still very very secret You know But there is a feeling that much like with the Canadian elections, the Australian elections being kind of a repudiation of American conservatism kind of rising again, that the College of Cardinals may have looked at this and said, what if we put in a progressive American pope, right? And that this is how they're meeting this moment in history, which I find to be fascinating.
