There's a great shot Millie Alcock and Supergirl comes in and she is not like buttoned up by sweet Supergirl She's like have party girl. Definitely one of my favorite lines. I also loved the I'm not Superman line. Yeah. Just before hot girl just fucking dropped his ass. Oh, yeah So let's let's go back kind of to the beginning They set this up like it's it's in it's in words right at the front Look meta humans have been around for a long time This shit's been going on forever Superman's been around for three years. Here's

2:19 the timeline, right? So you they make you understand up front This is not, oh, we're just learning about superheroes, right? Which I think is good. I'm glad they've done that. Yeah. Yep. 100 % like this is the world is accustomed to metahumans. It's nothing new. It's kind of a typical Friday. Yeah, we don't we don't like fucking waste time it just jumps in He gets his ass kicked. He heels up real quick goes and get his ass kicked again like Yeah Yeah, we jump straight in right okay, he's already he went to Boravia once he messed it dude up he came back now this the hammer of Arabia's here and We're doing some stuff and we we very quickly learn that it's all being controlled by Lex. Lex is setting this whole thing up. They don't they don't hide that from the jump, right? Like Superman, the other characters are digging through it as they go. He who we as the audience, we're not they're not hiding shit from us. Lex is behind the whole thing.

3:40 So, again, this was the part, the kind of the setup. The getting to the point where Lex breaks into the Fortress of Solitude, where he gets the stuff with Superman's parents, the rest of the message, which, you know, so the whole setup of this is that Superman's only seen the first half of the message his parents sent, and they were like, go there, do things for humanity, you're more powerful, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, but he doesn't know what the end of the message says. And then Lex breaks into the fortress of solitude with the engineer. They capture crypto and we're going to come back to that because boy. Right. I really didn't think he was going to John Wick Luther through the out of the building.

4:25 Oh, my God. I. Because I told you before we kind of like went to the movie. I was like, yeah, like it would be kind of really interesting if he did do something bad to the dog and you just he Superman just come unglued and just freaking laser beam half their freaking planet and like I kind of felt like we almost got that. We almost got there like it was close. Because that was like the shit my my family sent me to this planet to actually rule over them fuck everyone hates me That's the thing they set up is Luther steals the second half of the message and places like see and It's it's Jor -el played by Bradley Cooper.

5:09 Although he doesn't really speak anything in English, but it is interesting. It's Bradley Cooper as Jor -el Because James Gunn likes using the same actors for multiple things Right. Yeah, which is fine. The girl who played Mantis was one of the robots. The guy who played what's from Guardians with the. Mohawk, the. Oh, Michael Rooker. He plays one of the robots. Right. So, you know, we're having a nice little Guardians reunion in Superman. But yeah, the whole setup is, oh, no, Surinam's parents actually sent him here to rule Earth. Right. to spread his seed.

5:51 Wink, wink. Right. And like they're straight up. And I was like, did he fake it? And then like through the whole movie, they almost worked to convince you like, no, no, they weren't faking it. Like that's what Superman's parents. So I'm like, oh, so we got fucked up, Jarrell, in this universe. Yeah, I I was like, did this shit happen in the comics? Because I have never heard fucking this story at one. I was like, holy shit, this is dark. I'm which to kind of give you an idea of how kind of dark it is. I mean, you do have a hot girl dropping and killing someone. But then you also have Lex. I was not expecting this Lex straight up and went in front of Superman when he couldn't do shit about it. And I was like. That was the part where I was like, oh, we're actually making Lex evil, evil. Yeah, this isn't this isn't. Oh, my god. Oh, my god. Oh, my god. Oh, my god. Oh, my god. Oh, my god. Oh, my god. Oh, my god. Oh, my god. Oh, my god. Oh, my god. See, yeah that set up getting to that point again kind of was the part that dragged for me once we got past that We get metamorphose

7:24 It was now. All right, they set up earlier in the movie the kryptonites gone. There's no kryptonite left on earth, right? Yeah But metamorphose can turn himself into kryptonite, which is what F sub Superman He is captured what he turns himself in because of all the stuff that happens Right. Because the last part of the message and all that stuff. Well, he kind of he kind of turned himself in to find to find the dog because he was like, yeah, hopefully, like they'll take me where like they're holding the dog. Yeah. And they do. They do. The other sequence that dragged a little bit that I think they probably could have cut 30 to 45 seconds off of. Was in the river in the weird like proton river where everybody's getting disintegrated Right. I was holding the baby up. I'm like, yeah, we get it.

8:21 He's holding the baby up. He's fighting the guys like That one took a little longer than I think we needed Yeah that sequence Still good sequence and it gets metamorpho on side. Okay now metamorphose our buddy Yeah, right because I saved this kid Yep, right and and that's the other thing in this movie. One of the things is but being evil It's when Lex shoots the guy in front of Metamorpho Metamorpho is afraid of Lex. He's only hurting Superman because Lex has his kid, right? I'm sure it was like I'll get your kid and Metamorphos like nope Lex is too powerful. I can't do it.

9:06 And then Lex he watches Lex murk the falafel vendor Right and that's what metamorphose like okay like I can't I I think that's like a very like real response that I think a lot of people would have because like think about it if Lex is going to straight -up murder someone that Just gave Superman a falafel one day. Yep. Like there's no safety like there Because he's he's holding his son hostage, like, hey, like you, you have kryptonite on Superman. Basically, I'm not going to hurt your kid. All of that shit goes out the window. When you see like Lex Luthor, just kill a random fucking guy in front of you.

9:59 It's like, dude, none of us are safe. Like, yeah, we like what's going to stop them from just killing everyone and killing my son. Right. So why am I bothering? Yep. So I thought that was a really good solid turn for Metamorpho. Again, I loved Nathan Fillion in this movie. He's in so much more of it and his fighting is so funny In fact, there's a great sequence and you see part of it in one of the the TV spots where in the background you see Superman and there's a big thing floating in the background and he's just got to sit there and Lois comes in and she's like shouldn't you help them with that thing? And he's like, nah, it's just a dimensional imp. It's fine They've got it and you can see green lantern shit hitting at the background like he's creating giant baseball bats and hammers It's it's so funny to me because like I got a sense like they were struggling to handle this and Superman so I know they're fine. Why? It's fine. It's nothing Yeah, you just see them having this like crazy fight sequence in the background but Love that love that sequence.

11:04 I love me the feeling of this, you know And we get our we get our first look at the Hall of Justice, but they're not the Justice League yet. They're the Justice Gang. We're not called the Justice Gang. We're the Justice Gang. Like. I like how they're struggling to figure out their name right now. I'm like and Lois is like, I thought Superman was a member. He's like, no, he's too nice. Yeah, he won't let us kill people. Which is a conflict early in the movie when they're fighting the kaiju Because Green Lantern the hot girl of Mr. Terrific like fuck it just killed a giant kaiju and sir man's like no We don't kill things. I was trying to find a way to capture it. They kill it He's like mad at them about it Yeah, but that actually sets up nicely with the hot girl thing later because again those three established like look We're not above killing shit if we have to and so when they have the fight at the end in Boravia and Hot girls carrying the evil president of Arabia who's with looks I loved it. He was like you want to kill me your like Superman. She's just like yeet She's like watch this bitch. Hi Oh, God. That was a good moment. Great moment. I loved it. Yeah. Oh, God.

12:27 So it's like every every part of the movie was like amazing to me. I loved the part with his, I don't know, foster parents and where his dad is like, it's not. the plays of your parents to tell you who you are. We're supposed to just provide you tools to for you to figure out who you are. Basically, I was like, damn, that's such a good line. This goes to the thing that you and I talked about right out of the theater. And I think it's the most important piece. If you look at gun stuff within this genre, go back to Guardians, the entire Guardians trilogy, including and plus the holiday special is all about family.

13:09 Right. The first movie is about found family. The second movie is about how that found family is more important than your biological family, his battle with ego and everything else. And the third movie is about Rocket and family and the families that Rocket's been through, the one that was taken from him. And James Gunn is so good at having family as an underpinning of so much of what he does. And even though the so first off, I'm glad Mod Pod Kent aren't dead. Right. We don't need pocket to be dead again. Thank you. Oh, also side note. These are the most realistic looking Kansas farmers I've ever seen in a Superman movie. I'm sorry. Kevin Costner is not look like what most Kansas farmers look like. OK, let's just be real here. These two looked like Kansas farmers who were at home watching Fox News. Yeah, I love the mothers. like screaming into the phone on like the table. I was like, dear golly, this is so this is so accurate. Yeah.

14:20 Yeah. You really got the sense of. Like this is, I don't know, real. And I love the part where Mr. Terrific was like, you brought the fucking dog and he's like, yeah, I didn't want him to eat my my parents' house. And I'm like, oh, my God. And again, the underpinning of family starts at the beginning where when he's getting healed, they're playing the message from Jarell and Superman's mom and the robots are like, he finds it comforting. And then at the end of the film, after we found out all the fucked up shit that Jarell said, now the robot say it again and you're like, wait, well, he's going to watch Jarell again. And then it's actually Ma and Pa Kent and home videos of that. So the family underpinning just runs this whole This whole line in the movie and James Gunn always weaves that shit in so well Yeah, it's not cheesy at all No, it's good. No he he does it right, you know cuz it's not like fast and furious family But it really is family is an underpinning of this film and it's it's so well done I think what else one time mr. Terrific has a substantial role in the film and he's he's kind of the MVP to Yeah, fuck and I love the

15:50 fact that he was like, oh I'm I'm only helping out to piss off the Green Lantern The other part that I like is, oh, there was the line where Lois is like, you put nanites in Superman's blood. Do you do that to all your friends? He's like, yeah. Yeah. Everyone just like looks at themselves like girls like, wait, what? Oh, my God. And I do also love the scene with him and Lois where he's like, he tells Lois, like, I don't do that emotional shit. And Lois is like, Oh, yeah, I know. I'm just like thinking out loud of like how, you know, I just wanted to tell them that I loved him. But, you know, I was thinking about breaking up with him and all. And he's just like.

16:40 What did I just say? Just looks at her. I was like, Oh, my God. Oh, God. It was amazing. Oh, yeah, it was great. Again, Nathan Philly does some great stuff with his lantern powers, including a sequence where he's flipping the bird, the lantern bird. Oh, I was dying. All right. Again, kind of going back to the end, we talked about it a little earlier. We know the next movie coming out is Supergirl, Woman of Tomorrow, right? And I think we got a sense of the type of Supergirl we got. I am so excited. Holy crap. I'm excited for that. She's a hot mess. She was in there for all the two minutes and I'm like, oh, I need to see this movie. Yeah. Yeah. And she's going to be fighting Jason Momoa as Lobo is the primary antagonist in her film. So. That shit's going to get crazy. Oh. Yeah. I'm looking forward to it. I'm excited. I am excited. I'm excited for the DC like universe. I'm excited for the more excited for it now than with our soft launches.

17:59 All right. So let's do this. I'm just going to make a quick note here for our our thing. What so what does this tell you about where they're going with the DCU? Um, this is a very full world full of heroes. Yeah. So to me, I think we're going to see a March very much how Marvel did with end game. You're going to have these movies that are going to string together. I don't think we're going to get a full Justice League until you kind of assemble. all of your members and then they're all going to come together for like this epic fight. You can't do it for a little bit. Yeah. Because this is the other one we talked about on our way out of the theater. Batman.

He became Superman and now there's today So yeah, so he's 30 So he's still fairly young And again, I think we're gonna get an older Batman And I think that works really, really well because I think Batman is going to be very an older Batman's going to be like, no, you don't understand how the world works because Superman, like he wants to trust everyone. He sees the good in everyone. And then you're going to have a very old Batman who's lost a couple of Robbins seen some shit. Yeah.

We loved Nathan fill in a screen lantern, but our next big project is actually lanterns For the DCU So we're gonna get we're gonna get a bunch of lanterns Which I'm excited for I I love that shit. I am I They finally did the Green Lantern justice to me in this movie because I mean Ryan Reynolds it was just I do I need to I need a comment on that.

And the only time I remembered it later was when Lois the hot girl was like, that haircut should be gets your vows. Oh, my God. So that scene. I love that scene because they were like Lois Lane was trying to get their get their help to save Superman. And the green lanterns like I can't get into politics. I took a valid against my vows and then hot girls like, no, he says that like every single time he just doesn't want to do anything. And I was like, oh, that's that's hilarious. I love Nathan Fillion is slated to be at least appear in the lantern show, but he's not the main character. So Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre are playing the Hal Jordan and John Stewart lanterns, respectively. Well, Nathan, so we know on Earth there are at least three lanterns. Right. The other one I'm really curious about is the flash. Like, that's where I want to see what they do. I love the flash as a character.

Some of the projection companies that do this for the industry, like now it's going to hit 140. I think Warner Brothers is like 100, 110 because they feel safe there. Yeah.
